Isidore writes:
I was inspired for this piece by the sense of peacefulness and mystery experienced very late at night.
While composing this song, my main goal was to create a strong sense of atmosphere by using unusual instrumentation to form an unexpected experience for the listener. I think I managed to do this quite well and I love how mysterious the song ended up sounding.
I created this piece as an exploration of the β€˜Ambient’ Genre. I first researched and listened to a lot of music from this genre to decipher the particular musical elements I wanted to use in my piece. On an online sound mixing software called Soundtrap, I first created a basic chord progression and then added repeating beat patterns. I then recorded myself on the saxophone while I improvised melodies to the same chord progression. I would say the hardest part of this composing process was after I recorded the saxophone part; I liked my piece but I thought it was missing something important. I finally decided to add piano melodies throughout the piece as it would give it a more interesting texture and match well with the saxophone parts.
I really enjoyed working on this piece because I got to learn a lot about how to create a song and where inspiration can from as well as all the different tools on Soundtrap.
