(Hook) Technology, we’re on it every day. Texting friends, playing games, addicted every way! With technology, you can lose your mind, try disconnecting to see what you’ll find. Verse 1 Technology can be a help to you Can open your mind and be good for you it also has a dark side so beware When you're tied to the screen you gotta take care Cyber bullies like to see the end of us, Life online can be dangerous. Searching for love but getting hate in return, Real connection is something we all yearn. Hook Verse 2 Technology can be so cool. A great way to learn it can be a great tool But then again we need to take the time, we all feel To put balance in our lives and to keep things real Like the cells in our body, crave food to survive Do we really need our cell phones to keep us alive? So hear our words in this rap song. Keep some balance in your life and you won’t go wrong. Hook Bridge Social media can give us so much, It really is a great way to keep in touch But it can also have a really dark side, We’ve all heard the stories and some have even died! Social media is changing the way we see our self Post the perfect picture, leave the rest on the shelf So we keep scrolling and posting to our wall A perfect mask but not our true self at all. Verse 3 Online gaming is fun, that for sure, But is that all there is? There has to be more! Like the colours of the sun as it sets in the west, Hanging out with friends, really that’s the best So for sure be online, yeah that’s ok, but make sure you get out and about today Feel the sun on your skin breathe in the fresh air, take a walk on the beach feel the breeze in your hair Hook x 2

about

In Term 2 (2021), Year 7 explored a unit on HIP HOP in their Uplands Music class. We discovered that Hip-Hop is a culture made up of more than just music - including, street art, dance, and fashion. While Hip Hop is said to have started in NYC in the early1980's, from the disenfranchised looking to have their voice 'heard', it is now well and truly a global Music and can be found right across the world and in many languages.
One key element of Hip Hop and Rap Music is, of course, the power of the spoken word with rhythm and rhyme but also strives, for the most part, as a means of expressing 'real' stories. The stereotype is often of the so-called 'gangster rap' of the 1990s, but in fact, Rap Music, with respect to the originators, can be a way to express our own unique perspective of the world.
These Year 7 Music classes have explored the musical elements of Hip Hop and were challenged to collaborate and write their own original class Hip Hop song that in some way reflects their lives and perspectives.
