Khardeeja writes:
During the composition process, I came across a specific song called “Daylight”. The term ‘Daylight’ is metaphorical. The song shows that once we’ve found true happiness and have a brighter perspective of the world, we only see Daylight. However, right now I haven’t reached that part in life, so while I was deciding the song title, I thoughts about the life I’m currently leaving. Which is, ‘Almost to Daylight.’ The first half of the piece is my journey to happiness, where I’m finding ‘Daylight’, the second half of the piece, where I inserted an entirely different melody, is when I find happiness. The ending is what I hear when I do see ‘Daylight.’
I really liked the second half of the piece, the ending melody, because it gives of the dreamy feeling I was going for and it feels like I’m living in a fantasy. It feels like a piece which would be in a fairytale movie soundtrack and that’s what pleases me.
One major thing I’ve learnt was how to use Musescore and I’ve got a better understanding of a few things than I did before. Since this is my second piece, I was able to go through the composition process a little easier compared to the first, of course with the help from my friends, peers and teacher. I learnt that patience is key when it comes to composing, the ideas must come to you and you must be open to the variety of options.
This piece had multiple drafts because I couldn’t decide which melody I wanted to go with since I came up with a few. I knew the atmosphere I wanted this piece to give off, almost fairytale-like and based on a fantasy. I asked my peers and friends for their opinion and in the end, I was able to decide which melody I wanted. When the due date was already coming up, I had a debate about whether or not I wanted to add lyrics. In the end, I decided against it because the melody itself already sounded pleasant. Also, the lyrics that were in the draft before the final, I feel would suit another piece of mine.
